Film Tax Relief

Film tax relief is provided to UK film companies based on the expenses incurred in producing films for theatrical release in commercial cinemas. Since the schemes inception in January 2007 over £104 million in tax relief has been rebated to over one hundred UK films, this tax incentive is designed to support and promote the production of British films that qualify under the cultural test as “British”. Up to eighty percent of the films production budget can be claimed on UK expenditure this rebate can take a number of months after the film is produced.

To bridge the gap between day one of filming, and the time it takes for the film to be certified as being British, MoliFilms Finance releases funds to the film company secured against the tax credit yet to be granted. We navigate the regulatory requirements set out by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in the UK for productions and ensure that they are structured to meet criteria for British film qualification.
