In news that will send fans of the Bourne series into a frenzy, ‘The Bourne Legacy’ producer has been teasing that we could see two of Treadstones operatives, Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner, starring together in the next film.
Talking to Empire ahead of the films release in UK this August, Frank Marshall revealed that his dream was to see “Matt and Jeremy team up in the next one” and that “all possibilities were open”. Apparently the team were careful to make sure that any developments in the movie “did not preclude Jason Bourne from returning”. This will be good news from Matt Damon, who has said previously that he “really wants to do another one” and was sure “it would happen one day” providing it would be with director of the last two Bourne films, Paul Greengrass.
Jeremy Renner has also been talking about how his character Aaron Cross would differ from Bourne in the film. “He’s come from a completely different background to Jason, hr knows exactly who he is and what he’s signed up for’. From this, it sounds like we’ll be seeing a new direction for the franchise after the amnesia ridden reluctant assassin in the first three films.
Warner Brothers have been desperate to get a fourth film out after the massive success of the trilogy (based on the books by Robert Ludlum), with the last one (The Bourne Ultimatum) taking $110,000,000 at the worldwide box office. Along with commercial success came huge critical success, with all of the them reaching above 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been credited with inspiring the reboot of the James Bond franchise. That’s certainly a thought act to follow, but either way, we’ll be in line to see this one.
The Bourne Legacy comes out on August 13th in the UK.
